Such Love!

Dad is feeling pretty decent....we're thankful his pain isn't intense right now. He's eating well and getting lots of much-needed rest!

{Uncle Joe D and Uncle Joe A with Janet outside Holy Angels (Gary, IN) on Joe & Sue's Wedding day!!!}

Such heartfelt comments....such funny, laugh-out-loud memories. We are all benefitting from your treasured stories. My dad is going to LOVE them! Thank you for remembering my father and my mother's husband with such beautiful words.

{Cousin Julie, Aunt Sue, Aunt Mary, and Priscilla Martinez... I believe this was at one of the famous Ramos' picnics}

{I'm pretty sure this is Aunt Bex with a very young Aaron!}

How I learned to become a son, brother, husband and a father.

About a year ago I read a book called Five People You Meet in Heaven and it made me think about my life.
I feel there are 5 people in my life that have shaped my life and made me the person I am today. This is not to say all my friends and family haven’t contributed but I truly believe if everyone thought about their life, child and adult, they could find 5 people that have shaped them.

In my life I was blessed with the following people:
My Father
My Mother
Uncle Phil
Teacher: Mr. Mitchell
Diane, my wife

My Uncle Phil has been like a second father to me. I think I get a large part of my playful personality from him. He taught me that you could have drive to succeed without taking yourself so seriously. I remember helping him remodel his deck that probably should have taken a weekend or two. And it took a lot longer since he wanted the experience to be fun. When I was a child I thought he just took a lot of breaks. But now as an adult, I think he enjoyed working with his nephew.

Along with my father he taught me what was to be a father. I remember one summer Kathy got Dexter (a duck) from a friend as a gift. 90% of dads would have said you were crazy; we are not keeping the duck. But not my Uncle Phil, he could see Kathy’s excitement. Not only did they keep Dexter, he built a home in the yard for him.

As a child many times I recall asking where my packages were because he worked at UPS and naturally would know about his nephew’s shipments. And he always made it seem like finding my packages were his top priority. Even though in reality now, I know there wasn't much he could do.

I remember someone telling him once in my presence, to enjoy the admiration, because one day he will grow up and it’s gone. Of course at the time I couldn't ever see not thinking my Uncle Phil was the coolest. But as I got older, I did replace time with my Uncle with sports and girls. But looking back now, I see that he is still with me. Every time I laugh or let a stressful moment pass, his influence has allowed me to do so. I recently built a playhouse for my girls with my Dad. And I didn't mind that it took 4 months instead of 4 weeks. Because that time with my father was priceless.

Thank you and you are in my prayers for a full recovery.

...how wonderful to feel like a part of the Delgado family...how gracious of you all to share so much with us so freely...how, of course, Delgado of you!!
(I think 'delgado' will become an adjective, not a noun)
...thank you for sharing so freely, so openly, so lovingly...but of course...

Natalie

Joey - I loved the 'construction takes just a little longer' story...thank you too! You really delgado'd the story well.

This site is such a beautiful thing. I sit with my girls and read them all of the entries of the stories being told by Kathy and Auntie Phyllis to the entries being told from everyone else. They are amazed at all the pictures. I showed Jayden the pictures of me and Kathy; she blurted out "Mom, you were ugly!" I laughed. My kids are learning who Uncle is but most importantly how many lives he has touched. Jayden's words...Mom, he must be a great guy - is he famous or something? I stated yes, he is famous - to all of us!!!

Love,
Donnell

There is a little story behind that Wisconsin Dells Photo, those early years were a little lean back them. I had an Opal Cadet (very small German car) great on mileage, short on leg room with no radio. We found this great cabin for rental with a river front view at great price. We managed to squeeze 7 bodies into that car 4 adults, 3 kids and luggage. When we arrived, the cabin turned out to be trailer. But, it was by the river, with a huge tree that had a branch with a rope attached to it, which hung over the river. We used the rope to swing into the river. We had one great time, or at least Uncle Phil and I did.

Oh my gosh you guys, Wisconsin Dells trips were my favorite of all childhood memories (right up there with slumber parties Xmas Eve night at the Arias' house when we'd wake up to Santa's goodies...remember the barbie townhouse?!! I thought we were sooo rich!)....That Opal is another name to rear its ugly head!! How funny. If anyone in the Arias family has photos from those trips pls email them to me!

Jim and I are thinking of you. We fondly recall the many happy hours we have spent in your company. Those days in Dyer were fun and I am glad I learned to make tamales from the best. Best wishes for a happy Thanksgiving. Jim & Phyllis
